First the background - and this I have explained prior - "maamoul" the traditional Easter cookie means "done with" or "done to" in Arabic, the traditional flavors include dates, walnuts or pistachios. So? How about an avocado maamoul from Cocktail Lahoud? Because - yes, you guessed it - April Fools! And a pre-Easter ad to boot and - wait for it - the headline goes "this year, what is "done to" is us is as if it was a lie" (darn it, in Arabic it is ever funnier with maamoul being a double-entendre). So here we are, several ads all rolled into one. And a perfect one at that from Blanchor for Cocktail Lahoud.

In a country bordering on the surreal, April Fool's is too much of a joke.

Well, no one said that the 2 above courtesy of Anghami and Toters are April Fool's - although I do suspect they are and I wish they were.

The first is Anghami - our beloved music specialist - introducing "anghami food" whereby they match your food to your music. Yawn but fine, we've seen worse. The second is Toters - our delivery specialist - which actually promises that by scanning your tongue on the app is brings you the perfect meal. Which makes the Anghami stunt seem like a genius move.

Mind you this is the country that up until 2 days ago had 2 different clocks - here. A country where commodity prices differ depends on what time of day you bought them. Where everything seems like living in a Dali painting. Honest, when your day to day is so bizarre, teasing people with outlandish April Fool's jokes is not the way to go people.

We are already living in the Lala Land, and to quote those Turkish merchants when my Dutch friend tells them he comes from there "oh I have many many friends there". So here we are, when reality is stranger than fiction, I too have many many friends in Lala Land - Toters and Anghami are not among them.

Durex goes April Fools

So Durex went with an April's fool joke. A new line of condoms?

With a twist. 

Well, I am not the one to suggest blow jobs but honestly the ad suggest it vigorously, because the joke of the ad is that these are "shisha flavors" or hubbly bubbly/hookah. 

I mean come on, I am not the one with the dirty mind here but ahem!

Almaza goes April Fools

Right after Volkswagen rebranding as Voltswagen (another IHOB!) - which would have been a wonderful name for their electric combi coming to the market in 2023 - Almaza is playing the April Fools prank with a pomegranate molasses beer (note, there IS already a pomegranate beer!), but still it is kind of nice seeing them in the field and trying to lighten up the lugubre mood.
