“Each sold separately”. That is how the advertisings would
run on television. As children we remembered that phrase, not understanding
what it means, until we go to the toyshops and saw the beautiful items we have
fantasized about wrapped in different boxes, with different price tags and we
had to make the first economic decisions of our lives – how to allocate a tight
budget among competing ends. But so it went, and happiness? That too was sold
separately.
