In a move that today would have drawn gasps, Winston was offering 3,000 LBP (according to Banque du Liban figures around 1,020 USD - if adjusted to today's numbers it is about 7,000 USD per student) to each of the first three students who scored highest in their respective divisions in the "Baccalaureat" official examination in Lebanon (back then it was Philosophy, Sciences Experiementales, and Mathematiques Elementaires). The ad obviously targets high school students (and the brilliant ones at that) to turn them into smokers (if they are not already). Well, at least today if one is a smoker, one is aware of the dangers of it. But wow, times were indeed different then!
