Ghada El Samman and her nighmares. She saw Beirut right on the onset of our downward spiral. She read the signals, saw the doom and gloom, learned to love the silver linings. She claims Damascus, her hometown, will always be in her, yet how come it is Beirut which always comes back in her work – steadily, spookily, but also lovingly. As a testimony of a city, of a love.
